Dear friends across the Tasman,
By now, most of you will be aware that Hamilton City Council recently voted 7-1 to end fluoridation. As per usual, the pro-fluoridation mafia is hitting back via their favourite propaganda outlet – the tame, unquestioning media. We write this letter to arm you with some counter-arguments to their unscientific, simplistic mantras. Listed below are the main garbage claims you will hear, over and over again, pumped out by the mainstream media:
Claim: When water fluoridation is discontinued, your community will be facing a dental crisis.
This claim is not based on good science. It is crudely designed to scare and/or guilt trip you, and your council members, for daring to end fluoridation (or even considering doing so). There is no conclusive evidence to prove that when artificial fluoridation ends, decay rates rise as a direct consequence. As highlighted by Connett, Beck & Micklem (2010), “There is no evidence that where fluoridation has been started and stopped in Europe there has been a rise in tooth decay. Indeed, two studies published in 2000, from Finland and the former East Germany, show that tooth decay continued to decline after fluoridation was halted. There have been similar reports from Cuba and Canada’s British Columbia. The ADA claims that in cases where fluoridation has been halted and no increase in tooth decay observed, other steps have been taken to fight tooth decay. Whether or not that is the explanation, European countries have clearly demonstrated that there are other ways of reducing tooth decay without forcing everyone to take a medicine in their drinking water” (p. 33). ”There now have been at least four modern studies showing that when fluoridation was halted in communities in East Germany, Finland, Cuba, and British Columbia (Canada), tooth decay rates did not go up” (p. 250).
Claim: The children and the less fortunate will suffer, if water fluoridation is discontinued.
In the year 2000, the University of York examined the evidence for assumed inequality reduction, and concluded: “The evidence about reducing inequalities in dental health was of poor quality, contradictory and unreliable.” So when your local brainwashed dentist makes this type of claim, you know it is based on shoddy evidence, or no evidence at all. Furthermore, you only need to compare tooth decay data between fluoridated and non-fluoridated countries to see that people in non-fluoridated nations are not suffering from ‘lack of access’ to fluoridated water. Here is what Nobel Laureate, Dr. Arvid Carlsson had to say about this matter in 2010: “Sweden rejected fluoridation in the 1970s… Our children have not suffered greater tooth decay, as World Health Organization figures attest, and in turn our citizens have not borne the other hazards fluoride may cause. In any case, since fluoride is readily available in toothpaste, you don’t have to force it on people.”
Claim: Water fluoridation is a highly effective public health measure for reducing tooth decay.

Claim: The CDC identifies fluoridation as one of the top 10 public health achievements of the twentieth century
When you hear this, or read this, you can guarantee that whoever said it, or wrote it, has not critically analysed the source of the claim. Learn more.
Claim: Fluoridation is completely safe
To cite the York Review once more, “As emphasised in the report, only high-quality studies can fill in the gaps in knowledge about these and other aspects of fluoridation.” Now you may ask: Gaps in knowledge? You mean they are putting a known toxic substance into my water, without having a full body of knowledge to prove its safety, and not monitoring my daily dose or potential side effects? Actually, yes – welcome to the bizarre world of fluoride promotion. Key health studies have not been done (see: 50 Reasons, #45), so vital data is not available to scientifically confirm the claim of full safety. My work is supported by the UK Department of Health, I am a member of the UK Faculty of Public Health and have a number of funded research projects from the National Institutes for Health Research in the UK.

He does not (nor does anyone) have the right or knowledge to speak on behalf of the health problems/medical status of ‘most people’ and he obviously does not seek to research the extensive evidence of cumulative harm – BUT if people do choose to use ‘fluoridated toothpaste’ which is an S5 poison – THAT IS THEIR CHOICE to buy fluoridated toothpaste OR not !! ‘CHOICE’ being the operative word.

Dr. Weil is a well-known pro-fluoridation shill. Now that Hamilton has voted to ban fluoride from its drinking water, the country has become aware not only of the dangers of mass medicating the entire population with a toxic by-product of the fertiliser manufacturing industry … but also how we have been lied to by the fluoride apologists in the mass media and national government.
Even if you agree that fluoride is (somehow) a “nutrient” (it isn’t … it is toxic, even in small doses), there is no justification, either legally or morally, to force it on an entire population, young and old alike.
PROVEN: Fluoride is CUMULATIVE, and over time can and will causes a variety of degenerative illnesses.

Royal Society’s Chief Called to Resign over Fluoridation Review Debacle

Contrary to the claims that the Royal Society’s call for scientific information on fluoridation “did not elicit any new information indicating that a further review would be of value at present” the Society received almost 1000 pages of fully referenced scientific information showing fluoridation to be a significant health risk, as well as being ineffective at reducing tooth decay.
This information included many of the IQ studies recently reviewed under the umbrella of the Harvard School of Public Health, by world-leading scientists in the field of developmental neurotoxicology. The review was published in the leading journal Environmental Health Perspectives, and its findings directly contradict the recent statement by Professor Skegg.
Professor Skegg’s statement is simply a “complete fabrication”, according to Mark Atkin, CE of the NZ Fluoridation Information Service, who continues “It suggests the real reason the plug was pulled on the Royal Society’s review. The Society could not have maintained scientific integrity unless it recommended fluoridation be stopped, given the extensive scientific information we supplied. This would have directly conflicted with Professor Skegg’s blind support of public health’s entrenched fluoridation policy. Professor Skegg’s statement is simply propaganda – a betrayal of science and the statutory role of the Royal Society. Having put propaganda and personal beliefs above scientific integrity, he should resign immediately before he further damages the credibility of the Royal Society.”
The claim of “extensive research over many decades indicating fluoridation is [safe and effective]” has been fully discredited by the York Review 2000 and the US National Research Council Review 2006. “Any scientist with any knowledge of the fluoridation issue would know this. There is a saying: ‘when a scientist abuses his position in society of trust and authority to mislead the public, he does not become a dishonest scientist – he simply ceases to be a scientist. This blind repetition of propaganda shows that Professor Skegg has ceased to be a scientist”, concludes Mr Atkin.

Fluoridating water is a sneaky way of mass drugging the population, without informed consent. It isn’t right! People must have a choice in everything put into their own bodies and their family’s. By removing this toxin from drinking water, the choice is restored. Those that want fluoride can add it by using fluoridated toothpaste and thereby applying it directly to teeth, which is the most effective for dental purposes anyway. This would also end the over fluoridation that is causing discoloured and weakened teeth in children (dental fluorosis) as well as bone weakness, loss of cognitive abilities etc. Stop the madness!

Again and again it has been shown that the best way to keep teeth strong and healthy is to use fluoride toothpaste have fluoride treatment provided by a dentist and a reasonable low sugar diet. ADDING FLUORIDE TO THE WATER SUPPLY IS NOT THE WAY TO GOOD HEALTH

We’ve been fighting these crooks for years, so yes. Good points you raise. We’ve seen all types – the obviously paid shills, to the plain moronic & wilfully ignorant; the brainwashed; and everything in between. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who is who, but those who have a clear agenda are usually pretty easy to spot, as they follow clear patterns shared across the board (i.e. they’re all ‘reading from the same script,’ so to speak). Most people, however, are simply willing to trust the word of the local dentist, for no other reason than that dentist wears a white coat. I remember one encounter we had where we asked a Queensland dentist a very basic, neutral research question on fluoride, to which he did not know the answer. His patients then attacked us as follows: “HOW DARE YOU QUESTION ONE OF THE MOST RESPECTED DENTISTS IN MY TOWN!?” Obviously this is an emotional, illogical reaction. Instead of attacking us, what they should have done is ask their dentist why he did NOT know basic information about fluoridation/fluoride, but still saw fit to advocate forcing the measure on his community and abuse any opponents of fluoridation (even those far more qualified than himself).

Firstly, they rely on people with academia and reputation. They are professional, and their personalities are what drives alot of people to see them.

One of the best-known chemical alterations produced by fluorides is a reduction in cholinesterases, including acetylcholinesterase. Fluorides also directly affect the actions of many of other important neurotransmitters in the brain. Fluorides seem to have a special attraction to acetylcholine. Nerve cells that synthesize this transmitter have numerous projections to many forebrain areas, including the neocortex and deeper areas of the brain that provide information to the neocortex. Not only do fluorides change the amount of the acetylcholine in the 7 brain, they selectively block certain receptors that respond to this transmitter. Fluoride reduces the number of one type of “nicotinic receptors” for acetylcholine. Some other nicotinic subtypes are not affected.10 Added to all of the other alterations in structure and function of the brain caused by fluorides, the opportunity for mental and behavioural changes are almost limitless. While the cholinergic system of the brain has been most studied in regard to the effects of fluoride, it is not the only neural transmitter affected. It is likely that all neural transmitter systems are affected by fluoride intake, directly or indirectly. Other anomalies related to fluoride intake are found in many other chemical systems of the brain.
There is no known benefit of adding any form of fluoride to our drinking water. Who would want to increase chances of having a less than perfect child? Who would wish to take a chance on a possible reduction of their own mental capacity? Who would want to have their personality altered by fluoride induced alterations in their brain chemistry? Who would want to increase their odds of developing Alzheimer’s disease? Eliminating the addition of fluoride to our drinking water would remove these possibilities. The cost of doing this is zero. In fact it would enrich the communities now adding fluorides to their drinking water.

The only answer EVER was to provide access to affordable dental health care services for all the population, not the disposal of hazardous waste pollutants and co-contaminants of lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, etc., from phosphate fertiliser industries (and aluminium smelting industries) (known as water fluoridation, plus aluminium sulphate) into our drinking water supplies and hence also contaminating our food chain and using the populations’ kidneys as hazardous waste disposal/filtration units.

@Di; Speaking from a point of view in Geelong, Victoria. Apparently kidney disease is affecting more younger patients, which is a concern. Alzheimers has always been a problem in this city where it was reported many years back that an aluminium producers fallout could be responsible for this. We also had chronic emphesema and asthma, with industry not only around the bay but fyansford cementworks,(which is now not a problem since it does not exist any more). My uncle worked there for 30 years and his death was due to emphesema, my cousins husband worked at Alcoa 30+ years died of cancer/emphasema. Where is the EPA in all of this conundrum? Surely they have a duty of care to look after the air we breathe as well as the water we drink and the chemicals we are ingesting through our bodies. What about food products which have accumulated chemicals along with preservative chemicals? Could this be the reason for the obese,diabetes, and other illnesses causing metabolic change problems? I firmly believe Governments don’t give a damn, they are only interested in the dollars and getting rid of harmful bi products from industry which they see as “job creation”.

Taking a simplistic view of the whole matter. Incitec Pivot closed in Geelong for some time, little did we know for why. Out of the blue it was re-opened with you beaut “hydrofluorosilicic acid” new handling facilities, etc. in the name of jobs. (not). Suddenly, we are told, when in fact NHMRC in the past had stated toxicity tests need be done prior to this being released into our tap water. Barwon Water started putting these FSA’s in our tap water 2009. No testing. Bear in mind here, the then, Dr. John Carnie chief medical officer for Victoria was also on the board of NHMRC, (?vested interest),the new report had left out the bit about testing. Then we are advised no testing senstitivity available for “fluoride” poisoning. Tasmania has had fluoride for 60+ years; in dental crises; now we are told Geelong is to have a dental scheme $15maud to install. My friends this has nothing to do with the needy requiring fluoride. It is more to do with the getting rid of a toxic poisonous pullutant, saving the producer millions of dollars and costing us billions of dollars to buy their waste product. Now I could write in here all the links to all this writing I have done, however, k.i.s.s. is usually the best way to deal with these problems. I watch as many of my friends and others suffer daily with exacerbated health problems. It could easily have been dealt with by testing Geelong people prior and after to alleviate any doubts. How financially prudent would this have been? I would ask most of the people who are writing on this matter here; do they trust the politicians, do they question the ethics of Federal Parliament, do they know who they would want to elect come September? People, if you doubt all of them, why don’t you doubt their obvious lack of respect, integrity and ease with which they could possibly heal many ills with research into chemical toxicity in general, instead of us all being asked to donate to research which will fill the pockets of BIG Pharma, Universities, etc.. I am a skeptic inso far as I have lost all respect for the system which will not help those who suffer much systemic illness which POSSIBLY could have been avoided with a simple test.
The thing that I most fear is the fact that the quality control of anything in this country has gone down the gurglar. We see imports which are harmful to babies, toddlers and children; imports which may have anything in them not detected until someone is ill. Labelling doesn’t apply to imports apparently. We saw baby formula topped up with plastic brought in from China via NZ for ?Nestle. I suggest governments cannot be trusted, nor their “ill health departments”; it is all about the dollars and frankly many of us are guilty of greed also.

afamildura – I am concerned by how many of your ‘scientific’ sources are printed in the journal “Flouride”. This is a sham journal run by a man from his home near Dunedin, seriously, check out the street address printed at the bottom of the. It is not affiliated with any reputable organisation and the “peers” used for peer review are highly questionable. It is not a good source of information.
Please also remember that websites and books are not peer reviewed, and are not good sources of information either. You would not find it convincing if I told you to read this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Truth-About-HIV-Phillip/dp/1904015174, then to respond to each point to the author.
If there is a debate to be had regarding flurodation, it is important that both sides are playing with the same deck. At the moment I am really struggling to find any useful information to support your position. If fluoridation is harmful at 1ppm, then that is fantastic world news, easily publishable in Science or Nature. If you position is strong there should be no difficult in finding studies to support it. So please leave ‘Flouride’, Paul Connell’s books, and website information out of the discussion.
Doing so would be greatly appreciated by people like myself, who are experienced with research, and are very discriminating of the information we receive. It will also make your arguments more persuasive to less credulous readers, and I’m sure you don’t want to just preach to the choir.

Sparrow. What is your evidence that Fluoride is a sham journal and that the peers used for peer review are highly questionable? Fluoride is the official journal of the International Society for Fluoride Research, is in it’s 46th year of publication and has editorial staff with tertiary affiliations. Of the 1077 references in the 2006 NRC report, 57 were from Fluoride. No other journal was quoted more frequently.

I am replying to the OPEN LETTER TO THE PEROPLE OF NEW ZEALAND. What I write here is from personal experience over the 20 years that our town was fluoridated.
#! “When Fluoridation ends community faces dental crisis”. This didn’t happen in our town. But not only did the cavities not increase but the ailments like arthritis, cancer, heart ailments, kidney problems, immune dysfunction, Alzheimer’s disease, etc. in our friends and animals decreased.
#2 “Less fortunate will suffer”. I have no idea how this became one of the pro-fluoride groups mantras other than them grasping at straws. If any cumulative toxin, as fluoride is scientifically proven to be, is ceased, how could anyone suffer?
#3 “Fluoridation is highly effective”. Well our own Surgeon General says there is a “silent epidemic” (silent because the ADA doesnt want people to know fluoridation doesn’t work). This silent epidemic is said to be from the masses of pitt and fissure cavities. If indeed fluoridation works as touted, that ingested fluoride is incorporated into the teeth and saliva. Then how does do they explain that this incorporation of fluoride, if fluoride stops cavities, must not go into these pitts and fissures and the salive must skip right over these places. There would be very few pitt and fissure cavites if their ‘THEORY” worked, let alone an epidemic. Again, it’s psychologically manipulative propaganda that takes in easily led people to mislead them to make a right choice. All they have is words and money, but they don’t have integrity or honesty. They don’t want you to question it, they want you just to accept it like sheep.
They use words that make you emotional like “Community Facing Dental Crisis”, “Highly effective public health measure”, “top 10 public health achievements of the twentieth century”, “completely safe”. Crisis, Community indicating suffering and stress, and sadness. Highly effective means oh wow, it’s been tested and shown to be highly effective. Top 10 meaning it’s been on an article, so therefore it refutes any genuine truths against it. Completely safe, gives off a relaxed feeling and confidence.
They mislead the public and brainwash them all-in-one and use tactics like online media and journalists who are in for the money, not for the “HEALTH BENEFITS”.
It doesn’t reduce tooth decay, that’s just psychological and there’s alot of questions and criticisms more than answers. Don’t you think it’s fishy when it’s capitalised and has investors in it to make money at the expense of causing injury?
Can these proponents stop being machines and saying the same crap over and over and over again and admit they are wrong? Or maybe these people don’t have any shred of honesty and aren’t the people that they should be listened to.
I read on the Herald Sun, 6/06/2013 that there was a piece from Yarra Waters saying that tap water saves you money, helps the environment and is ‘good for you’. Then they spin the mantra that it prevents tooth decay and strengthens teeth in the journalistic way.
Maybe no-one is approaching the state health officials with paper evidence and airing their concerns. Maybe the change of parties, like the Australian Soverignty Party, who promises to remove Fluoride, may be an effective way.
It’s also toxic waste and harmful to the environment because the human race took an element from mother nature, processed and refined it to make it in the levels/consistency of toxics with arsenic, lead, and radionuclides. that would cause health issues when not removed.

How can Fluoride be a nutrient? It’s not natural at all. And even some natural things are very poisonous, especially when it’s extracted from Phosphate Rock, or bought cheaply from china via Alibaba or through some Chinese Corporate Wholesaler.
Fluoride doesn’t make my teeth stronger. I’ve avoided tap water, and drinked fluoride-chlorine-purified Reverse Osmosis and Distilled water, and eaten fruits and vegetables, walked out in the sun to get Vitamin D and my teeth are stronger.
Aren’t teeth a part of the skeletal system in our body?

Why aren’t they peer-reviewed studies on the positives and negative health consequences that is made by independent scientists and funded by the states?
Like the one Australian Safe Water Letter Archive (?) posted.
Why isn’t there any safety tests done on it, especially when the chemicals have, on occasion, burned through their storage containers because of it’s burning properties on occasions that the proponents can look up.
One incident in Israel, one in NSW, one in Texas, Massachusetts.
This chemical is not the same one that occurs in clean seawater, which is Fluoride, and the correct element that hasn’t been processed in factories and stuff, and in very low doses, and when I drink tap water I do feel momentarily dizzy.

No CDC toxicologists, minority health professionals, experts in diabetes, or others outside the Oral Health Division had any input into the agency’s position.
The documents have drawn attention once again to the CDC’s and EPA’s fluoride safety statements, which appear at odds with current scientific knowledge.

Dentists have Controlled CDC’s Water Fluoridation Stance for over 35 Years…
Documents released under the Freedom of Information Act show that since the 1970’s, the dental health professionals in the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have completely controlled the agency’s stance supporting water fluoridation. No CDC toxicologists, minority health professionals, experts in diabetes, or others outside the Oral Health Division had any input into the agency’s position.
The documents have drawn attention once again to the CDC’s and EPA’s fluoride safety statements, which appear at odds with current scientific knowledge.

I noticed above that you cited the York Review. The authors of this review stated, “We were unable to discover any reliable good-quality evidence in the fluoridation literature world-wide” (http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/crd/fluoridnew.htm)… “Given the level of interest surrounding the issue of public water fluoridation, it is surprising to
find that little high quality research has been undertaken” (http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/crd/pdf/summary.pdf).
i.e. It’s not the amount of studies that’s important, it’s the quality. Cheng et al. (2007) made a note of this poor quality of evidence (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2001050/), as did Awofeso (2012) (https://afamildura.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/public-health-ethics-2012-awofeso-phe-phs016.pdf).
If you add that to the equation of all the key health studies that have not been done (see NRC recommendations: https://afamildura.wordpress.com/reports-reviews/) you come up with a picture of poor quality evidence, with numerous unanswered questions. Pretty pathetic.

I am not a scientist or a politician, what I am is someone who has ben poisoned near to death with fluorides.
My initial exposures was from my avocation–a dental hygienist. Being now 62, I began this occupation when neither the dental nor the medical fields even thought or cared to wear gloves or mask protection. I became so ill, so quickly being nauseas, the well meaning doctors treated me with antibiotic for what they diagnosed as chronic sinus infection. Of course after taking these antibiotics I would then have to be treated for the inevitable yeast infection. From 2001-2006 I had 17 rounds of these two types of drugs, all still while being exposed to sodium, stannous (tin) and acidulated phosphate fluorides in my work place. It was not until years later I discovered all the drugs contained fluorides.
A myriad of strange symptoms and “diseases” appeared in this once robust and very health minded individual…me. This is first hand experience of the hell fluorides reeked on my life and my well being. One has only to do a little research to know the damage and ill effects of being exposed to this most highly reactive halogen are more far reaching than whether or not it helps with caries!
Besides the constant feeling of wanting to throw up but can’t, I suddenly seemed to develop ADD like symptoms. My focus and memory were effected–then my speech, as I began to struggle to recall the meanings of words. This went hand in hand with not being able to hold onto a thought long enough to even search for a word to express my self. It felt as if big pieces of who and what I knew myself to be were ripping off and disappearing into space somewhere, somehow. I was acutely aware of these sudden shortcomings and completely helpless to do anything to stop it from happening. I descended into Alzheimer’s like dementia.
I now had to hold my hand out or people to make change for me because I could no longer remember what nickels ,dimes or quarters were worth. People would talk real loud and slow AT me because they thought I was mentally handicapped or slow. Where once I took pride in helping educate others about their oral hygiene, I could no longer even keep my body clean. One does not truly understand humility until you have been so humiliated.
Because I had been a practicing right handed hygienist, this meant my left hand was always out of the mouth holding a mouth mirror for retraction. My right hand was the wick of absorption of fluoride into my body. My lungs inhaled it’s off gassing effects. ( I always wondered why the clear preparation I used to coat a tooth surface with before applying sealants caused my left eye to pull over to the left. I was having an eye stroke from the chemical fluoride). Because of the crossover at the brain stem, my left portion of my brain began to show the signs of this highly neurological toxin.
I suddenly started having seizures. I asked the neurologist if fluorides could have anything to do with this. His reply, “No, fluorides are in toothpaste”, was prophetic of the readiness and unwillingness of many to believe something our mothers made sure we used daily, could turn out to be harmful and even deadly. Ever notice how stannous(tin) fluoride used to be the
big buzz word and suddenly was quietly replaced with other types of fluorides? I believe it may have been known, even back then, fluorides pass the blood/brain barrier where they lodge in the pineal gland in the brain. There it attracts aluminum and tin. In some places that is being suspected of being a causative factor in development of Alzheimer’s disease. (Also please notice underarm deodorants are now available without aluminum in their formulas). And yes, these seizures were left brained from right hand exposure to fluorides).
My right leg began to drag, my right side of my face began to droop. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and did not feel taking medication made any difference. Because Iodine is a much more, less, highly reactive halogen than fluorides, the cells receptor sites were not able to produce the hormone, Thyroxin, as readily. They were all blocked with fluorides. I consulted an endocrinologist and asked why I suddenly had fibromyalgia, fibrocystic breasts, fibrotic uterus, and fibroids in various places in my body. ( I had a huge fibroid tumor in my right hand –go figure)!!! I wanted to know what was affecting my fibrin cells. His reply, “Just a coincidence”, might have appeased his curiosity but not mine. I researched until I found proof that fluorides disrupt the way protein peptides are broken down. They distort the receptor sites causing hormones not to be able to be manufactured properly as they should. Now we are speaking lots of problems, all with different disease names and all with medications to “fix” them.
Proof positive of fluorides effect on my health came from a most highly, improbable source–a hand surgeon’s office. I was there with no feeling to my hands, diagnosed as severe carpal tunnel syndrome. By the Grace of God, and indeed the answer to a prayer I had just prayed for answers and healing, I picked up a scientific journal in the doctors waiting room. I turned to an article which stated, CARPAL TUNNEL WAS DIRECTLY REALTED TO FLOURIDE EXPOSURE!!! I went home and goggled fluoride poisoning. Presto change!!! I discovered Second Look-Tides, a not-for-profit agency which helps people recover from fluoride toxicity. I read the check list of diseases and symptoms, some seemingly bizarre and obscure, and I knew my prayers had indeed been answered.
Naively I called the FDA and spoke with an official, asking for a complete list of everything that had fluorides in it. The man choked laughing so hard. He said, “Lady you GOT to be kidding!!! It’s in everything.” Come to find out, over 1/3-1/2 of the scripted drugs and OTC medications have fluorides in them from preparation or for delivery into the body’s cells. Insecticides and pesticides are major vehicles for fluoride’s uses. Everything from some coated cookware, cleaning fluids, protective coatings, some of water, etc, etc, literally, ad nausea. We are inundated with fluorides in our daily lives. Since they are a known bio accumulative chemical, we all have our own toxic level.
When yours has been reached, it is not a question of IF your body will react, but how. For those toxic, the tiniest bit of fluoride makes you react as if you have had a near lethal dosage. I can remember getting sick from brushing my teeth with fluoridated toothpaste. Strangely drinking ice tea even became as source of illness feeling for me since tea is a know natural bio accumulative of florides…in some causes with as much ad 400x the fluoride in fluoridated water.
Now, some 15 years later, I have recovered most of my abilities, some of my health and am alive and cognitive of just how close I came to being an end stage victim of fluoride’s most insidious damages to my health and well being. One incident is truly the beginning of this road to enlightenment and discovery of fluoride’s extreme harmfulness on living beings and the very start of my reclamation of my life. During the very depths of full body muscle spasms which racked me without any let up, I used to have to rubber band a pen to my hand to try to be able to write. I would conscionably have to mentally “lock my spine” in place to remain upright for even a few minutes at a time.
During one of these times I was “puking the pain”. This is what I called my writings about this mysterious malady which plague me without plausible explanation. I thought it was tears which wet my page, only to look up and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I was not crying, as I thought, I was drooling. I decided I must be dying. I decided if that was the case, I was going to do so with dignity. So I put away all the medicines the doctors had given me for all this litany of ails and woes.
I began to get well. Gradually I began regaining strength and vitality. I installed a radio frequency air purifier which used low grade low levels of ozone and my cells began to be cleaned out as my body literally dumped toxins from every cell of my being. I used a water purifier which removed toxins (one being fluorides I now know). I started responding to physical therapy, I began to be able to walk again and started doing yoga. Second Look-Tides helped me and I have never ever looked back until this very long letter right now. Not only is this a look back but it is a look forward! The future of what is to be is in your hands, will be your voices speaking, and you and that of your loved ones effected.
Please know I have taken my time to painfully exam my past, horrific journey of fluoride exposure and poisoning so I might share my story with you. If you heed this as a warning, or dismiss it as the ranting of an anti fluoride zealot, it is all by choices. Do your homework. Spend time researching. Make intelligent informed decisions.
For you who might want to know that most powerful of prayer I said which was literally answered by a breath of fresh air, know I heard it first spoken by, of all people, Oprah, the talk show host. I had been poised to write with the pen banded to my hand. I was mentally asking myself what I could do to get help and relief from this very real hell my life had become, when I heard the TV program that was on in another room. In a very loud and clear voice she said, “This is my favorite prayer for healing. Ask God to heal your life in everyway according to His plan. His Plan for my life is for:
Peace of Mind
Happiness
Joyful Activity
True Place
and Unbroken Progress.
Ask that your will not interfere with his plan for healing your life”.
It somehow feels to me as if I needed to take my time now to post this to others. Yes, as if this is the collimation of this journey and maybe an answered prayer shared with others who might find need for healing. Bless you all and I certainly would not wish any part of this what happened to me on another soul.

“There are a few warning flags already. In the introduction the author mentions the ‘principal documented effects of ingested fluoride on teeth is fluorosis’. No mention of reduced cavities at all.
Also his disclosure states “Conclusions were analyzed on the author’s personal time and do not necessarily reflect any institutional view” which probably means they are trying to distance themselves from his work.
And, a quick google search of Richard D. Sauerheber reveals he is the “resident scientist” for Fluoride Class Action.com. So maybe not completely unbiased.
I think really though we just need a little time for the people who do research water fluoridation, to review his work. Still makes some interesting points though.”
But thanks for bringing up this article. If it does have merit then people should be able to repeat his results. Since this is a very new study there isn’t much feedback on this yet, so only time will tell. That said, there been thousands of studies so far, showing no issues with low levels of fluoride.

how much water is not used for drinking? probably on 5% or less is drunk. from a money perspective, adding fluoride to water is a waste of money as 95% or more is flushed down the toilet, put in the washing machine, sprayed on gardens. it would be more effective to add it to salt or provide free fluoride tablets so those that feel they don’t need it can have a choice.

also look at the NZ health Dept stats comparing dental caries in flouridated and non flouridated areas. it shows there’s no difference, or MORE dental decay in fluoridated areas – compare auckland to chch for example. ALL your peer review links are void when looking at the real statistics.

I had a talk to the skeptics group, I’ll just quote the results instead of me repeating it:
“Well the problem with directly comparing the fluoridated and non-fluoridated stats is that it does not consider secondary factors, such as social economic group. Nevertheless, that stats show that overall area with fluoridation have 83.5% of the dmft of non-fluoridated areas.
Interesting, in Canterbury the only areas with fluoridated water are Burnham Military Camp and Methven. The Army is really needs to invest in dental hygiene classes because the the non-fluoridated cantabrians had only 60% of that dmft of the fluoridated.
Excluding the south island the benefit to fluoridation is more pronounced. In the North Island the fluoridated areas in the northern provinces had 70% of the fluoridated, midland provinces had 74% and central provinces had 73%
In the South Island fluoridated areas actually had about 10% more dmft that non-fluoridated areas. This is most likely due to the influence of Christchurch.”

To date I have found these exchanges most disheartening. I am surprised that people that clearly present themselves as being “scientific” should invest so much vitriol attacking a book that none appear to have actually read. If this controversial issue could have been so easily resolved in favor of the orthodox position, we would not have had to write this book.
I have spent 14 years of my life researching this issue – first as a professor of chemistry (specializing in environmental chemistry and toxicology)and since retirement in 2006 as director of the Fluoride Action Network.
14 years ago I did not want to get involved in this issue, largely because I was extremely busy but also because I had succumbed to some of the prevailing attitudes and prejudices shared by some of the commentators above. It was a huge shock to me when I eventually read the literature rather than take the word at face value of the professional bodies and government agencies that promote this practice.
In my years exploring this issue I have found that the loudest and most confident proponents of fluoridation are those who have studied very little of the primary literature for themselves. Proponents like the American Dental Association and other professional bodies have done a brilliant job of keeping their members away from the primary literature using two tactics: listing the number of “prestigious” agencies that endorse fluoridation and denigrating opponents of fluoridation as a bunch of “flat-earthers.” With the latter they received major help from the hilarious movie Dr. Strangelove. I was surprised to see both tactics in evidence from several of the commentators above.
I would be more than happy to respond to scientific arguments and criticism of our painstakingly documented work with those who take the trouble to read it. I am sure those with scientific qualifications will have no trouble obtaining a free copy from the publisher Chelsea Green (see ChelseaGreen.com and search under fluoride) if they would like to write a review of the book either for this blog or some other media outlet.

Thanks for replying.
Usually people who can’t do a peer review article write a book. If the evidence shows that fluoride is as terrible as he says it is then he should have no problem to have a peer reviewed article released. Then the scientific community would have no problem accepting his evidence.
I could also dig up books and articles around the net showing the positive effects from X people but to cut out the crap I only deal with peer review studies. Which is what I have posted.
I personally don’t have problem with people writing books, but from what I’ve found when debating with creationists, anti climate change, anti vaccine, anti GMO, etc, is that anyone can write a book and not fully research in the evidence. There is no quality control like there is in a peer reviewed article.
Anyway that is my feedback, I’ll stick with the evidence, and the evidence shows fluoride benefits outweigh the positives.
Now if it should be salt and not water is something I don’t currently have a problem with.

There is a very easy solution to this… You read Dr. Connett’s book in full, then send him an email ( paul@fluoridealert.org ) with a response to all his arguments, explaining to him where he is wrong; present all of your own detailed counter-arguments. Once you have done that, report back to us with a summary of your correspondence. We will also email Dr. Connett to confirm that you have done this. Then, we’ll take the discussion from there.
If you have all this spare time to read the peer-reviewed literature, and write these comments, surely you have enough time to read and respond to a book written by someone who has also examined the peer-reviewed literature. We would be happy to consider your full critique of Dr. Connett’s book; we will even make sure he receives it personally.

Why no investigation of a possible relationship between exposure to fluoride and arthritis, hypo-thyroidism and kidney function?
Why no follow up on Jennifer Luke’s findings on fluoride and the pineal gland?
Why no use of the severity of dental fluorosis in children to investigate any childhood concerns?
Our answer: those who promote fluoridation have no desire to find that this practice is causing harm. In other words they are working backwards. What is his explanation?

While I’m still online, perhaps I can save you some time:
1. Where Dr. Connett refers to the examination of the primary literature as the basis for the formulation of the arguments presented in the book, perhaps this quote from Dr. CV Howard will help in confirming this point: “The text is approachable by non-scientists and specialists, although an extensive technical bibliography is provided for those who wish to delve deeper” (http://www.fluorideresearch.org/433/files/FJ2010_v43_n3_p170-173.pdf). Also, Dr. Arvid Carlsson (Nobel Laureate, Medicine, 2000) called it an “excellent book”, whilst Dr. Hardy Limback (National Research Council panelist, 2006) wrote, “Written with clear and easy-to-read prose, and supporting citations, The Case Against Fluoride carefully lays out the arguments against fluoridation and reasons why it should be discontinued” (http://www.chelseagreen.com/bookstore/item/the_case_against_fluoride:paperback/praise/). So the logical question would be, why is it okay for these three credible professionals, in their own right, to read and review this book, but those like yourself feel it should be dismissed without even being read? Also be sure to read ‘Thiessen’s general comments’, available via the same link. Again, a highly credible risk assessment expert and former National Research Council panelist. 3. The absence of study. Okay, take the York Review (2000) for example. This is NOT a clean bill of health for the fluoridation program. These are unresolved issues at all levels. Not a good model for public health policy. But it gets worse. As for the Chinese IQ studies, it worth noting page 223 of the NRC report (2006), which reads: “The possibility has been raised by the studies conducted in China that fluoride can lower intellectual abilities. Thus, studies of populations exposed to different concentrations of fluoride in drinking water should include measurements of reasoning ability, problem solving, IQ, and short-and long-term memory. And again, Paul you nailed it. This person you wrote to doesn’t have a clue and doesn’t want to have one. He just wants to argue. He has way too much time on his hands. If he would use some of that time to do some real research on this subject, he may learn something. I suggest he read Paul’s book and look up each referenced study and read them word for word. Go to http://www.fluorideresearch.org and read the peer reviewed mansucripts in that journal too.
I would like to add that since fluoride is cumulative, any amount consumed is accumulating in the body. Since true science, not arguable by anyone on either side of this issue, reveals that fluoride is just slighly less poisonous than arsenic and more poisonous than lead and cumulative like lead, anyone arguing that the small amount put into water, or less, is doing no harm is missing this very important point. It builds up in the body. My horses proved this, one after another, each getting sicker and dying from this accumulation. Dr. Krook, PhD, DVM called them the canaries in the mines for fluoride poisoning.

I rather accept the truth – that water fluoridation/pollution is an absolute fraud – not safe and not effective. A few examples thereof:-
After decades of water fluoridation/pollution in every state of Australia first commencing in Tasmania (Beaconsfield) in 1953 we are in absolute dental crisis – as is the USA after up to 67 years of it first commencing Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1953. Water fluoridation/pollution is not safe and not effective and the Dental Industries continue to grow charging amounts for dental care that is becoming out of reach for more of the population than ever before -in Brisbane (water fluoridated/pollution December, 2008) for instance, just to have one ‘filling’ ranges from $160.00 up to $300 or $400.00 depending on the size of the cavity ! If ordinary people without health care cards have toothache if you haven’t got this huge amount of money to pay for fillings tough luck – and public dental waiting lists (people with health care cards) with variable waiting lists for different dental problems. FLUORIDATION/POLLUTION IS AN ABSOLUTE FRAUD and must be banned everywhere permanently and irrevocably.

“Numerous studies have shown kids in Townsville have between 40-60% less tooth decay.”

Reading their 7 page official dossier presented to The Lord Mayor’s Task Force on Fluoridation, one finds on page 1:
“Riordon reported on 11-12 year olds with different fluoride exposures in West Australia. “
“He found higher caries prevalence in the permanent dentition in children in unfluoridated Bunbury than in children in fluoridated Perth”.
So, on page one we find this study comparing populations of significant differences, a matter of failure to comply with rules of statistics which state such studies must be performed only with very similar populations.
It is not scientifically acceptable to compare populations of such differences as Perth 1,244,320, Bunbury 28,000, and also at the same time be aware and consider the socio-economic factor that was also significantly different.
Their main dental data related to Brisbane and Townsville, but here again we find a scientific and statistical error in comparing two cities of such different population and socio-economic differences.

Brisbane 1,000,000 – Townsville 90,000
However, the authors after attempting a favourable fluoridation outcome with the Lord Mayor’s Task Force, expected the Committee to vote accordingly to fluoridate Brisbane’s drinking water supplies. The quality of their presentation collapsed on the final page of their “Research”.
“A difference of 0.25 (one quarter) surface in the permanent dentition probably constitutes a minor effect at the level of an individual patient in the age range studied here”.
On this kind of official dental study showing a difference of one quarter of a tooth surface per child, we now find the fluoride pushers want another similar study in Brisbane (Courier Mail 21st July, 2004).

I work for a council, I oppose fluoridation – but I am just a staff member – but every one in favour at work quotes the World Health Org and stats on fillings that have no correlation to fluoride – its bad science
I cry on the inside – I just simply say – do the research – don’t listen to me – google fluoride and what it’s made of … and my two questions
1) how do you control the dose? ( you cant we all in take diff amounts)
2) why poison our food chain, all animals, fish, seas, rivers, and us for just teeth ? – it makes no sense

Yes, our members have been doing many forms of direct education since 2008 ( http://afamildura.webs.com/about.htm ). As a result, we had over 90% support from our local community ( http://www.fluorideaustralia.org/articleView.asp?Article=50 ). We still got forcibly fluoridated by Government order, but the point is, our education campaign worked with the people.

Documents released under the Freedom of Information Act show that since the 1970’s, the dental health professionals in the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have completely controlled the agency’s stance supporting water fluoridation. Dr. Patrick earned his B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University majoring in chemistry. His experience as Antibiotics Research Scientist was with the National Institute of Health and Lederle Laboratories.
Dr. Patrick is Senior Professor and Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, Mary Baldwin College, Stauton, Virginia, 1967 to date. He is author of 28 technical papers and holder of 7 U.S. patents.
A number of scholarly volumes and numerous technical articles have been written showing the biochemical and toxicological hazards of deliberately exposing the population to continuous dosages of such a potent chronic toxin as fluoride. I cannot summarize them in the time of space at my disposal here, but will confine myself to sketching three points…….
For these three reasons, as well as for a number of others that I have not attempted to cover here. I strongly advise against the legislature of this Commonwealth having anything to do with fluoridation.

Tooth and bone decalcification as a result of fluoride even has a name – fluorosis. Fluoride is very reactive and it goes deep into the bones and cells where it is accumulated. Yes, the tooth surface becomes much harder, but the tooth itself becomes more brittle. From a lot of research it seems that fluoride causes joint problems, skeletal deformations, osteoporosis, and that it can even cause bone cancer. Also the brain cannot escape from it. Fluoride has a negative influence on the nervous system and the immune system, and in children it can lead to (chronic) fatigue, a lower IQ, learning disabilities, lethargy and depression.

Concerning the oft-repeated observation that fluoridation has enjoyed overwhelming scientific endorsement, one should remember that even strongly supported theories have eventually been revised or replaced. Environmental scientists, as well as many others, tend to doubt fluoridation. In the United States, scientists employed by the Environmental Protection Agency have publicly disavowed support for their employer’s pro-fluoridation policies [73].
The orthodox medical establishment, rather weak or even ignorant on environmental issues, persist in their support, as do most dentists, who tend to be almost fanatical about the subject.
In English- speaking countries, unfortunately, the medical profession and its allied pharmaceutical lobby (the people who sell fluoride) seem to have more political influence than environmentalists.
