The purpose of this blog
Welcome to the Research Blog of the Anti-Fluoridation Association of Mildura (AFAM). AFAM has vigorously fought against the promoters of water fluoridation since 2008 (expressing a particular distaste for those who insist on mandatory, state-enforced fluoridation). We believe in the power of information and the necessity of being able to access it efficiently, especially online.
We have designed this Research Blog to be a concise point of access for key resources and arguments against fluoridation. We are not here to tell you what to do with these, but we hope you will find innovative ways to use them to assist you in the context of your specific situation (local activism, online activism, research, etc).
If you require detailed scientific feedback, or otherwise more comprehensive or urgent assistance, we suggest that you contact a relevant team member of the Fluoride Action Network.
Are you new to the issue?
For those coming into this issue for the first time, the sheer amount of information and complexity thrown into the mix can be daunting. We recommend five main resources as great starting points to familiarise oneself with the primary scientific and ethical arguments against fluoridation:
1. The FAN Activist Toolkit – a page that includes the documents: 10 Facts About Fluoride; Who Opposes Fluoridation?; A Response to Pro-Fluoridation Claims; and 50 Reasons to Oppose Fluoridation.
2. Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation – a video that presents a powerful indictment of the water fluoridation program through interviews with a Nobel Laureate in Medicine, three scientists from the National Research Council’s landmark review on fluoride, as well as dentists, medical doctors, and leading researchers in the field.
3. The Case Against Fluoride – a 2010 book by Dr. Paul Connett, Dr. James Beck & Dr. Spedding Micklem, which, according to Dr. Vyvyan Howard, is “a well-researched, cogently argued, and very readable text that summarises historical, political, ethical, toxicological, and epidemiological scientific data behind drinking water fluoridation… approachable by non-scientists and specialists, although an extensive technical bibliography is provided for those who wish to delve deeper.”
4. Dr. Paul Connett at Murdock Theatre – watch Dr. Connett’s comprehensive critique of pro-fluoridation claims, including the latest research updates and a Q&A session. Also featuring Dr. Albert Burgstahler.
